The first conference, under the name of Electrical Insulation Conference, took place in 1987 and has been held every other year since then. This year’s conference, entitled International Electrical Equipment Conference JIEEC 2009 – “Strategies for a global improvement of electrical energy usage”, will be held at Bilbao’s Euskalduna Conference Centre on the 25th and 26th May 2009.  It will follow on from the lines set over recent years by focusing on mass energy storage and the expected deployment of electrical and hybrid vehicles as new opportunities for the sector actors.

It will also cover the traditional equipment and systems of the transmission and distribution networks, adapted to the new technologies and the most innovative developments. This year’s edition will also host the final conference of the FENIX European project, where the results of the R&D activities of 21 European firms in the scope of Virtual Power Plants and Integration of Distributed Energy Resources into the Power System will be presented.

The conference is organised by TECNALIA-Energia, the Energy Division of TECNALIA Technological Corporation, which integrates the R&D&i capabilities and activities of INASMET, LABEIN and ROBOTIKER. TECNALIA-Energia specialises in three main areas: renewable energy sources (solar, wind, biomass, waves), the energy vectors (the electrical network of the future, energy storage and hydrogen and fuel cells), and technological services for conformity evaluation.

OBJECTIVES

The conference aims to provide a meeting point for experts and researchers from different countries and spheres to exchange ideas and discuss the state-of-the-art and progress-to-date in electrical equipment for electrical networks and emerging solutions such as mass energy storage as a grid management tool, and the new opportunities that can arise with the deployment of electrical vehicles.
